Data Update 2
Lead:
Nine months into 2014, over 16,000 complaints have been directed to Vancouver's 3-1-1 city helpline regarding missed garbage, recycling, or organic waste pick ups. Citizens clearly aren't happy, so what is causing the missed garbage pick-ups and why is hasn't the situation improved?
Interview subject: The city of Vancouver has a directory of people who work in human resources and PR that manages the 3-1-1 helpline. The directory list which department the individual works in and the the individuals direct phone line rather then the randomly assigned 3-1-1 line. This is one of the names I found on the directory.

The first sentence of your lead is intriguing, I'm not sure the second isn't necessary. It provides too many questions and I'd rather you just went straight into the answer. Joanna Cheng sounds like a good the person to talk to. The data you provided wasn't linked, therefore I had to copy and paste, which was slower than if the link worked properly, but otherwise the information to support your lead was provided.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like something very interesting. I wonder what sort of answers you will get from Joanna Cheng. I personally have experienced this problem with garbage cans being missed and there doesn't seem to be any obvious explanation, so it will be nice to see what the City has to say in defence of their multi-million dollar system.... Don't forget to hyperlink any URLs next time, if only for reader-convenience. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds very interesting although I've never had to call 311 to complain about my garbage since I live in an apartment building. It would be great if Joanna can answer the questions in your lead, Im sure many people would appreciate that. For next time, you should hyperlink your data sheet so that it is easier for your readers to access it.
ReplyDeleteGood tentative lead. I understand you only have data, so you see this as a question that you will need to answer. Hopefully your source can do that for you. If not, it sounds like there are many other names on that list you can try. It would be great if you could find someone who has had to call the number and see what they have to say about the problem.
ReplyDeleteHey Chris! Awesome lead. It's pretty straightforward and the main idea of the story is clear. I don't live in Vancouver so I've never had to call 311. I think it would be interesting to hear from a Vancouverites who have called 311 in regards to garbage issues. Or alternatively, perhaps you could call yourself? I agree that hyper linking your data would be awesome!
